Evangelism Is…Reaching People Through Relationships, Part 3 (The Soul-Winning Motivator #68)

Our soul winning verse from the Word of God today is Mark 16:15 which reads: “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”

Allow me to share with you some important insights regarding this Scripture from David Guzik’s Commentaries on the Bible:

Jesus gave them a command to obey: Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. This is a command, not a suggestion. Interest in missions is not an elective in God’s university of grace. It is something in which every disciple is expected to major.

The idea of a faith that would go into all the world wasn’t a part of the Jewish thinking of Jesus’ day. It wasn’t part of the pagan thinking either. It was revolutionary idea in its time.

This command was not obeyed immediately; for many years, the disciples stayed at Jerusalem, and it was only until the church was persecuted that it began to spread out to the world. But it did spread, and continues to.

Our soul winning quote today is from Elton Trueblood. He said: “Evangelism is not a professional job for a few trained men, but is instead the unrelenting responsibility of every person who belongs to the company of Jesus.”

Our soul winning devotional is part 51 of our series titled “What Evangelism Is” from Dave Earley and David Wheeler.

Evangelism Is…Reaching People Through Relationships (Part 3)

Stage 2: Survey Your Relationships
In this stage Christians are encouraged to examine their circles of relationships in order to identify individuals in need of Christ’s love and salvation. Until we survey, we may not realize how many people God has put within our reach. Once we start to identify these individuals, we should gather basic information that will guide both our prayers and efforts to reach out to them.

Stage 3: Work With God Through Prayer
Prayer is not just a warm-up exercise before you do your spiritual work but intimate fellowship with a holy God who desires close and frequent prayer time with His children. Through these intimate times you will gain the wisdom and discernment to recognize opportunities for making disciples. According to Thompson, working with God through prayer will teach you to pray “that God engineers circumstances in the lives of others to draw them to Himself and to his Son Jesus Christ….You will pray about the people in your survey and watch to see where God is working in their lives. When you become aware of those needs that will be your invitation to join God and show his love to the needy person.”

Stage 4: Build Relationship Bridges to People
As you pray for those people in your concentric circles, you will learn to recognize unsaved individuals. In response you should intentionally begin to build bridges to those people that God has put in your path. This enables God’s love to flow through you with the goal of leading them to Christ.

Bridges to others can be built a number of ways – through mutual interests or hobbies, by helping them through times of crisis, or even sharing moments of joy. Make no mistake; building relational bridges is the most effective way of leading others to Christ.

In our next broadcast, we will look at Stage 5 of why evangelism is…Reaching People Through Relationships
