Evangelism Is…Winning Three Battles So Jesus Can Win the War (The Soul-Winning Motivator #61)

Our soul winning verse from the Word of God today is Proverbs 11:30 which reads: “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.”

Our soul winning quote today is from Tim Elmore. He said: “By and large, this generation will not be won to Christ and assimilated into the church because of some crusade or brilliant preacher, but due to a quality relationship that has been built with them by an authentic follower of Christ.”

Building Relationships

Effective evangelism is all about building relationships with lost people. Dr. Elmer Towns writes, “A relationship between Christians and unsaved people has proven to be the most effective means of influencing unsaved people to get saved.”

Several times in the Gospels we see the power of relationship building in bringing lost people into a relationship with Jesus. For example, John the Baptist introduced Andrew, one of his own disciples, to Jesus. Then Andrew immediately introduced his brother, Simon Peter, to Christ. The day following, Jesus found Philip, a resident of the same town as Andrew and Simon Peter. Friendships played some part in Philip’s meeting the Savior. Philip applied the principle of networking by immediately finding his friend Nathaniel and introducing him to Jesus. Regarding this powerful chain of redemptive relationships, Towns writes:

In retrospect, three things become clear. (1) A relationship with God is the foundation to the Christian faith. (2) Human relationships are the most effective way of opening the door to reach people for Christ. (3) Working through existing relationships, or networking people for the gospel is a biblical approach to evangelism.

Many people may not require a great deal of relationship building in order to create a productive atmosphere for sharing the gospel. However, vast numbers of people do require time and effort to establish a needed level of trust before they are willing to hear something they view as deeply personal as how to have an intimate faith in a personal God.

Winning Friends and Winning Souls

Some people like to refer to evangelism as “soul winning.” The term soul winning comes from the book of Proverbs where King Solomon wrote, “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.”

Evangelism is capturing human lives for God. The battle to capture human lives for eternity is usually the result of winning three victories.

1. Win them to yourself.
2. Win them to your church.
3. Win them to Christ.
