Our soul winning verse from the Word of God today is 1 Corinthians 9:16 which reads: “For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!”
Our soul winning quote today is from Bill Hybels and Mark Mittelberg. They said: “Do you want to be a contagious Christian? Then stop apologizing for your God-given design. Quit trying to deny your individuality…Somewhere in your community, there is probably a seeker who’s one step from coming to faith but who needs to come in contact with someone like you-with your personality, your temperament, your passion, and your interests.”
Our soul winning devotional is part 38 of our series titled “What Evangelism Is” from Dave Earley and David Wheeler.
Evangelism Is…Being Yourself
David is an active and aggressive evangelist. He loves people and is determined to share his faith and see that no one goes to hell. He does not beat around the bush but cuts right to the heart of an issue or argument.
Ingrid is a fun-loving, talkative, persuasive, energetic people person. She seemingly has never met a stranger and has no problem sharing the gospel with people she has never met. Last week in the mall, she led to Christ two women she had never met before.
Steve is a servant. People say that he will give you the shirt off his back. He devotes every Saturday morning to cutting the grass of the elderly people in his neighborhood. Eventually he will ask them if he can pray for them. A month or two later he will share the gospel with them. After months of patiently mowing a widow’s yard, he will finally be able to share Christ with her.
Curt likes to study apologetics, cults, and world religions. He has been known to get into interesting discussions at the local bookstore and enjoys witnessing over the Internet to spiritual seekers, agnostics, and atheists.
Which one is right? Which one is most like you?
You’ve Got Personality
Everyone is different. God has given each of us unique personalities. Of the four people mentioned above, as long as each one shares the gospel as part of his or her lifestyle, they all are right. They have different personalities, and, as a result, the way they share the gospel is somewhat different, but all are effective evangelists.
Christians most effective in evangelism learn to evangelize according to their personality and the personality of their listener. One thing that gives evangelism a bad name is the notion that there is only one right way to do it. That is not true. The right way is to share the gospel in a manner that fits your personality and that of the person you are trying to reach.
In our next broadcast, we will continue to look at why evangelism is…being yourself.
