Evangelism is Spiritual Warfare, Part 3 (The Soul-Winning Motivator #52)

Our soul winning verse from the Word of God today is 1 Peter 5:8 which reads: “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”

Our soul winning quote today is from Jim Elliot. He said: “We are spiritual pacifists, non-militants, conscientious objectors in this battle-to-the-death with principalities and powers in high places….We are “sideliners” – coaching and criticizing the real wrestlers while content to sit by and leave the enemies of God unchallenged. The world cannot hate us, we are too much like its own. Oh that God would make us dangerous!”

Our soul winning devotional is part 35 of our series titled “What Evangelism Is” from Dave Earley and David Wheeler.

Evangelism Is…Spiritual Warfare

The Devil Will Be Defeated Because Jesus Is Victorious
The war is real, but so is the victory available in Christ. Paul writes that followers of Jesus are supervictorious in Christ. Romans 8:37-39 reads: “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Prayer Is Powerful
The apostle Peter was a powerful evangelist. Three thousand people were saved as a result of his first sermon. He personally understood the spiritual battle that goes with aggressive evangelism. He was often arrested and imprisoned. He saw his church in Jerusalem scattered around the world through persecution.

It would have been easy for the enemy to intimidate him and eat him up with anxiety. But Peter understood that you fight a spiritual battle on your knees. He witnessed his own deliverance as the result of a prayer meeting. At the end of his letter to his scattered flock, Peter gave them a powerful key to winning against the attacks of the adversary – prayer.

The Word of God Gives Us Power to Overcome
The apostle John was a frontline warrior in spiritual warfare. He saw his brother martyred for his faith. In fact, when John wrote his letters, he was living in exile on a forsaken island. John keenly understood the power of the Word of God to defeat the enemy. 1 John 2:14 reads: “I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.”

In our next broadcast, we will look at why evangelism is…praying prodigals home.
